CHECK THE SNIPPETS HERE

A real obscure one right here, outta of South Carolina. Originally released on CD & cassette only by independent label Phanatic Records in very small numbers.  This is one of those much-coveted joints by the tape & CD collectors. Producer Kenny Pickett drops the illest indy flavas on this amazing, slept on/unknown EP. Included are all the tracks from the tape as well as the CD bonus joint. Sound is top notch off the OG studio recordings.

Big shout out to Kenny for providing the sounds and my man Earhoodz in Colombia for the request - you asked and Herring delivered!!

Peep the short interview below with Kenny for a little insight.

Here is a short interview with producer Kenny Pickett:

Where did you grow up man?

I grew up in Rock Hill, SC.  Its about 20 Miles outside of Charlotte, NC

What are your earliest memories of the culture?

My earliest memories of the culture was in 1985 listening to  The 2 Live Crew,  The Fat Boys and La Di Da Di.  I was In love after that.

Did you check for local music or were your main influences from up north?

Growing up in the south my main influences we mainly from Upstate New York although MC Shy D was popular here in the south.  There wasn't too much music coming from the local scene.

How did you get into production?

My cousin sent me some music from New York and when I heard "I Desire" by Salt n Pepa and The Jungle Brothers " Straight out the Jungle". I was truly inspired. I could not understand how they got their drums to sound like that. I was not familiar with breakbeats so at the time I thought that the artist produced the drum patterns.  I tried so hard to emulate those sounds with my drum machine ..lol.

What were your first pieces of gear?

My first gear was the  Roland  TR-505 drum machine and then  I got the Alesis HR16 drum machine. I used a Casio keyboard to add sounds to my drum patterns.

How did you meet Demico?

I met Demico through a mutual friend. I was known for making beats in the city so he asked me to work on his upcoming project.

What was your connection to the label Phanatic?

Prior to meeting Demico I had no connection to Phanatic Records. I had my own production company and local artist that I was working with at the time.

What was the feedback at the time for the Demico record?

The feedback from the Demico project was really good primarily because no one had actually pressed up retail ready cd. Demico was the first in our area and he inspired many to invest in their project.

And this is being released nearly 30 years after being recorded - so do things get
"Better With Time"?

Thirty Years later I am in total awe when I get fans messaging me from all over the world about how  the project inspired them. I am humbled by the response and I am truly grateful that Demico gave me the opportunity to live out my dreams.
